WHAT IS HEELS DANCE?
Heels dance is a powerful and expressive style rooted in the technique of jazz and ballet, while amplifying sensuality, confidence, and performance.
The style also draws inspiration from cabaret, burlesque, ballroom, pole, and exotic dance — blending strength, musicality, femininity, and storytelling through movement.
Heels began gaining mainstream popularity in the early 2000s through artists like The Pussycat Dolls, whose music videos helped bring the style into the spotlight, with many major artists and choreographers following suit.
What makes heels dance so magnetic is that it goes far beyond choreography. It invites women to reconnect to their bodies, build confidence, explore sensual movement, and express themselves in a deeply embodied way.
It’s this unique blend of technique, performance, empowerment, and self-expression that has drawn so many women to heels classes over the last decade.
My classes are designed for women of all levels, ages, and body types, whether you’re stepping into your very first beginner heels dance class or returning to movement after years away.
Dear woman,
You do not need to be a professional dancer to experience the magic of heels.
Truthfully, I didn’t begin formally training until my twenties. Before that, I was simply a woman who loved to move. After years of go-go dancing on bar tops, I nervously walked into my first heels class in 2015… and something in me awakened.
I had never experienced anything like it before.
The sensuality.
The confidence.
The freedom.
The sisterhood.
I watched women soften, expand, take up space, and reconnect to parts of themselves they thought they had lost. There was something so healing about it.
I knew more women deserved to experience this.
So seven years ago, I began teaching. Since then, I’ve shared heels with women across Canada, the U.S., and Europe — and no matter someone’s age, background, or experience level, the transformation always begins in the same place:
The moment they finally allow themselves to start.
So if you’ve been feeling the pull toward this world, trust it. You do not need to “be ready” first.
Come exactly as you are.
I’ll meet you on the dance floor.
XO Shaka

Frequently Asked Questions
-
No dance experience needed. My classes are very beginner friendly. But if you are feeling that you want some tools to start with before you enter the studio, I suggest you start with my foundations course Heels Drills Vol.1
-
No flexibility is needed for heels dance. My personal style doesn’t rely heavily on flexibility or any fancy tricks. However, if you find you are struggling with limited range of motion (in hips, lower back, hamstrings, etc) I suggest my virtual program The Dancer’s Toolkit which will help with the mobility needed for a dance class.
-
Anyone who is 18+ can attend heels classes. Because of the sensual nature of the classes and the music, I prefer my youngest students to be 18+. But there is no age limit on dancing. I have taught students from 20s all the way to 60s and 70s.
-
Heels are not mandatory for a heels class. I highly encourage you to come to class without heels first so that you can understand the movement, learn the postures without having to fight for balance. Once you are ready for a shoe, I suggest you download my free PDF, The Ultimate Heels Guide that will answer all your questions.
-
Anyone is welcome to attend my classes. But my top priority is making the women in my classes feel safe enough to be vulnerable and seen. My style is very feminine and always sensual. If you can respect that, then you are welcome in the classes.
